Retro Wedding Gowns

I'm sharing one of my favorite wedding graphics
for Pink Saturday

I'm also sharing vintage/retro wedding gown photos.....

Styles of the 1950's - early 1970's

Birdcage Veil with Rhinestones

Vintage Crocheted Gloves

Grace Kelly weds Prince Rainier of Monoco, 1956

The taffeta and Val lace confection was a wedding gift from MGM Studios, designed by Helen Rose. Imagine this: 25 yards of silk taffeta, 100 yards of silk net, and vintage Belgian rose point lace. Her headpiece was classic : a bandeau cap covered in tiny seed pearls under an intricate lace mantilla.

Many similarities of Princess Grace's gown to that of
Catherine Middleton, bride of Prince William, 2011

Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy weds Sen. John F. Kennedy, 1953

Gown designed by Ann Lowe, a very talented African-American dressmaker.  There were 50 yards of silk taffeta, with a very full circular skirt tucked and pleated (Lowe's specialty). On Jackie's head was her grandmother's rose point lace veil hanging from a circular lace cap festooned with orange blossoms. She pulled her look together with short, white kid gloves.

How fun - your delightful pictures are gorgeous and I bet they're full of sweet family memories for so many of us. I can't wait to see the rest. I'm hoping you'll have one similar to my grandmother's dress, which I remember - a bit of a flapper dress. Thanks for a fun Pink Saturday.

I so love looking at lovely gowns. As an aging Baby Boomer, I miss the days of ladies "dressing". My mother always wore heels, a hat, gloves...truly a "lady". I wear flip flops and dream of other days. ;-)

You shared the most elegant gowns ever today! I so enjoyed browsing through them. Some even have some unbelievable prices. How helpful for the brides to be with choices yet to make.

I love the 1960s formal floor length gowns best. Weren't they exquisite?

Beautiful share sweetie. Have a glorious weekend. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

Noelle is in the wedding. I will get those pictures when the wedding is over! Fun times!

Hi Stephanie,
What an incredible post. I love it and just about every pic has something that is my favorite. My very favorites are Grace and Kate's dress as it reminds me of my own with lots of lace.
Your party will be fantastic and I am looking forward to it again this year.

Hope you are having a nice weekend. We are bracing for storms tonight and Miss B is a mess.
Under a tornado warning right now.
Getting ready to turn off the puter and wait it out.
Hope you are not having the same thing tonight, if so, be careful.
Have a great week ahead.

Love,
Celestina Marie

Oh I so loved your post! I had forgotten how beautiful Grace Kelly was. I adored Jacqueline Kennedy's wedding gown. That was so gorgeous. The tea length one's remind me of my mother's wedding dress and I had wished I'd been small enough to wear her's but alas my mother is 4'11" and I'm 5'6". I adore dresses, especially wedding dresses.

Hugs, LisaKay
