SHOW & TELL SUNDAY ~ TRASH to TREASURE!

SHOW & TELL SUNDAY ~ TRASH to TREASURE!

Sweet Analise of Sugar*Sugar is our hostess this week for an installment of Trash to Treasure! What fun!! Please go to her blog here to get a complete list of participants in today's Show & Tell!

I've got lots of things I've "tweaked" over the years, but didn't always have the foresight to take "before" pics.

Since I'm in the business of selling antique mirrors on ebay here, I always have an eye out for mirrors. When I found this mid-sized shadow box mirror from the late 1950's, it was in sad shape. DH did NOT want me to buy it. Said it was in bad condition, it was too large to ship, no one would want it, yadda, yadda, yadda.....But it screamed for me to take it home, peach colored frame & rusty roses & all ~ it was the epitome of puky shabbiness that would have made even Rachel Ashwell cry. I brought it home, dusted it off, sanded down the rough places, added a little filler into the cracks, then painted it white.
Now, DH thinks I should sell it. I THINK NOT!!! It is the perfect place to display some of my favorite little trinkets & baubles!
Now, if you know me at all, you KNOW I have a slight weakness for lighting. Some dare call it an addiction. I spied this ugly table lamp in all its blackness with a mustard colored dented shade at a sale & I snapped it up. I could see something beautiful just waiting to happen. Luckily, I made "before" pics of this one.

Took it all apart piece by piece to clean it (note to self: always ALWAYS make a diagram of how the pieces go together) first! Painted it white, of course. Had DH re-wire it as it was from Europe. I also added crystal bobeches & crystal beaded chain, new candle sleeves & a new gold pull chain.
Angelic Accents version of a tabletop chandelier

Added pink beaded light bulb covers from Lowe's. This has already graced two different rooms in my home & I can't wait to show you what I've done with it now, but that will have to wait for a bit. Aren't I such a tease?!?! After my moderate success with that first lamp, I tackled a bigger project. My first ever floor lamp built with vintage pieces. There were no before pics of this one. Just piles of pieces to put together. This was so much fun & I even added a nightlight to its base. In a weak moment, I sold it. How I regret that now. Guess I need to scrounge up some more parts & make another one just for me.

I think I've shown this picture before of a corner of my kitchen, but it shows my favorite little silver teapot lamp. This was really tarnished, I mean we're talking purplish-iridescent hues ~ so I polished & polished it til it was sparkling. Then my dear daddy sawed off the topper on it, drilled a hole straight thru to the bottom, hubby wired it, & I added a little bell shade. Now it brightens up a rather dark corner & I have so many happy memories of Daddy, hubby, & I planning it all out together. We also made one for my sweet Mother.
This long sofa table was another one DH & I fought about!! We were at a small local auction & this really dark ebonized wood table with splitting & peeling veneer came up for sale. I wanted it so bad! DH said no ~ & you can see who won out ~ it has the most adorable little appliques on each base of the legs. I will try to get a better picture of it soon for you.
Well, I could go on & on about all my trash that I have primed, painted, fou-foued up, & now love, but I must make the rounds & see what all of you have been up to! I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of my favorite trash to treasure pieces.
Hugs,

I love all your trash to treasures. It is so much fun, isn't it?!

I believe my favorite is the silver teapot. It looks just perfect on your counter.

Nice job on the lamps! My husband and I cobbled together a couple of lamps from several we found at a thrift store a few years ago. Making your own unique lamps is so much fun! LOVE the teapot lamp; it's terribly sweet. (I want one!)

I love how you take the old lighting and revamp it to create something new and exciting. I like to take ceiling chandeliers and turn them into hanging swag chandeliers, for people how want to be able to move, adjust and change things around. I don't have a single picture of any I redid, I have either sold them, or they are in the process of being sold. thanks for sharing today.
